Here’s a fun twist on a favorite recipe. If you know how to make a fruit pizza, then you can make an all American fruit flag!
Fruit Flag Pizza Sugar Cookie
I love this recipe because it’s festive for the 4th and super duper easy. I prefer a sugar cookie over a flag cake.
This recipe uses a 9×13 size pan (a quarter size pan). You can easily double the recipe and use a half size pan (18×12) if you are feeding a big crowd.
Ingredients to make a fruit pizza flag:
We have two options for you for making this fruit pizza flag. You can make sugar cookie bars from scratch (preferred…see printable recipe below) or you can use a tube of pre-made cookie dough. Here’s the quick option:
* 1 tube pre-made sugar cookie dough
* 1 8oz. package cream cheese
* 1 cup marshmallow cream
* 2 cups sliced strawberries
* 1 cup blueberries
How to make a Sugar Cookie Flag Pizza:
1. Spread cookie dough in a 9 x 13 inch sheet pan.
2. Bake the sugar cookie according to directions or until light brown. Let cool.
3. With a hand mixer or stand mixer, mix the cream cheese and marshmallow cream until fluffy.
4. Spread mixture on the cooled cookie and cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to serve.
5. Top with sliced fresh strawberries and blueberries in the design of an American flag.
4th of July Sugar Cookie Fruit Pizza
This sugar cookie recipe comes from our favorite Sugar Cookie Bars, only now we are adding the fresh berries on top to look like an American Flag. I love how you really can customize this recipe to celebrate all the holidays!
All American Sugar Cookie Fruit Flag
Serve up a festive American Flag Fruit Pizza to celebrate the holiday.
Ingredients
- 3 cups flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1 stick butter room temperature
- 6 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 egg room temperature
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
For the Cookie Icing:
- 1/2 stick butter room temp
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
Fruit Flag
- 2 cups fresh strawberries
- 1 cup fresh blueberries
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
-
In a mixing bowl with a metal whisk, mix together flour, salt, baking soda, and cream of tarter. Set aside.
-
In the bowl with a mixer, cream together the butter and sugars for 2 minutes. Slowly stream in the oil while beating. Add the water and vanilla and then beat the egg until combined. Now add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients a little at a time, mixing until combined (scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed).
-
Move the cookie dough into a parchment lined rectangular baking dish or pan. Press the cookie mixture down into the pan.
-
Bake for 15-18 minutes, depending on your oven. Out of the oven, let the bars cool completely in the pan.
For the Icing:
-
Cream the butter, sour cream, and salt together. Add powdered sugar a little at a time, alternating with adding the milk. Add extra milk or powdered sugar if needed to reach your desired consistency. Add food coloring and vanilla and mix until combined. Using a rubber spatular add big dollops of icing onto the cookie bars and spread it evenly. Move the pan into the fridge to chill.
-
Let the icing set to the touch before cutting them. These cookies are best served chilled, also because there is dairy in the icing, it's best to store them covered with plastic wrap in the refrigerator.
-
When ready, cut into bars and add sprinkles if you’d like.
To make a Fruit Flag:
-
Wash the fresh berries, dry them with a paper towel. Slice the strawberries. Add rows of fresh sliced strawberries and rows of the fresh blueberries to make the top look like a fruit flag.
