Have you ever tried roasted cabbage? I think it’s my new favorite vegetable to roast. It’s something you wouldn’t think would roast very well, but it’s quite the opposite.
Roasted cabbage with bacon and parmesan is a simple, delicious, and healthy side dish for your meals! You wouldn’t expect it to roast well, but ends up getting nice and toasty with crispy edges. Adding the bacon and parm just brings it to the next level. I made this on an afternoon when I was the only one at home. I was hoping to save it for dinner later that night, but I ended up eating it all. Whaaa?! I know…it was that good. So I had to make it again. Even your kids will love this! I can’t wait for you to try it.
What you need to make Roasted Cabbage with Bacon and Parmesan:
- green cabbage
- olive oil
- salt and fresh cracked pepper
- season salt
- bacon crumbles
- parmesan cheese, grated
How to make Roasted Cabbage with Bacon and Parmesan:
- Preheat: Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- Cut cabbage: Slice the cabbage into thick one inch + round slices.
- Line the pan with parchment: Cover your sheet pan with parchment paper or tinfoil …for easy cleanup.
- Add oil and seasonings: Rub olive oil on both sides of the cabbage slices and sprinkle with a good dose of salt, pepper and your favorite seasonings.
- Roast: Roast for 45 minutes until the edges are crispy.
- Top and serve: Top with bacon and parmesan cheese while still warm.
How to store Roasted Cabbage:
If you end up with leftover cabbage, you can keep it stored covered in the fridge. When you’re ready to reheat it pop it back into the oven or an air fryer to get those crispy edges again!
Why are they called Cabbage Steaks?
I think the term “steaks” when referring to cabbage is because it’s a big slice of cabbage verse shredded or chopped cabbage. It also requires you to cut them with a fork and a knife, similar to how you would cut a steak.
How to roast cabbage steaks in an Air Fryer:
To make this recipe in your air fryer, you will roast them at 360 degrees F. for 8-10 minutes.
Make sure to add olive oil and your seasonings before adding them into the air fryer. If you want them to be more on the crispy side, we recommend roasting only one at a time in the air fryer basket, as to not over crowd, causing them to steam rather than roast.
Recipe Variations:
You can really flavor roasted cabbage in so many different ways.
- Try topping with different kinds of cheese, Swiss or Gruyere cheese would both be delicious.
- Turn up the heat: Add your favorite spices or serve with hot sauce for a little added spice.
- Savory and Sweet: Serve with a little balsamic glaze for some added tangy sweetness.
Will cabbage shrink when cooked?
Yes! Make sure you cut your cabbage a bit bigger than you want it when cooked. I cut my slices a little too thin, they really shrink down to nothing in the oven, but I actually loved those crispy edges the best.
