One of our favorite ways to use leftover steak: make Philly Cheese Steak Sandwiches.
I literally could serve sandwiches every night, and my husband Kyle would be happy happy happy. Isn’t that funny, he’s like Joey on Friends. He loves a good sandwich, and these Philly Cheese Steaks are just the ticket.
Once you have the flank steak all grilled and ready to go, the rest is pretty easy. You’ll want lots of onions and green peppers and nice big hoagie buns.
What Is Needed To Make A Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich?
- grilled flank steak thinly sliced (leftover steak is perfect here)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1-2 onions sliced thin
- 1-2 green peppers sliced thin depending on how many veggies you like on your sandwich
- 4 slices provolone cheese
- Mayo if desired
- 2 fresh bakery hoagie buns cut and buttered
How To Make A Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich?
- In 1 tablespoon of olive oil, sauté the onions and peppers. Then add the cooked sliced steak into the pan and cook until hot.
- Broil the buns under your oven broiler until lightly golden brown. Add a slice or two of provolone and heat until just melted.
- Spread mayo on one side of the bun and top with the meat veggie mixture. Serve warm.
Can A Different Steak Be Used?
Absolutely! If you do not have or can not find a flank steak you can also use a rib eye, a skirt steak or even a top sirloin. It is all about what you like and what you prefer to use.
What Is The Best Cheese For A Philly Cheese Steak?
The most common cheese used when making a Philly cheese steak is provolone cheese or white american cheese, but a slice of white american cheese followed by a slice of provolone cheese seems to be the most requested cheeses on a Philly cheese steak sandwich. You can use either cheese you like, it is also common for some people to use cheese whiz for their cheese of choice, it is all a matter of taste and preference.
What Is On A Traditional Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich?
A traditional or classic Philly cheese steak sandwich consists of the meat usually a top round beef steak or a rib eye beef steak grilled, along with sautéed bell peppers and onions. With either white American cheese or provolone cheese is melted on top and served in a hoagie bun.
