Ingredients you’ll need to make Spinach Cheese Shells:
- 24 jumbo shells
- 2 eggs beaten
- 2 cups ricotta cheese
- 2 cups cottage cheese
- 1 cup parmesan cheese
- 2 cups grated mozzarella cheese
- 1 1/2 cups chopped fresh spinach
- 1 tablespoon dry parsley
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoons pepper
- 1 large jar marinara sauce of your choice
How to make Spinach Cheese Shells:
- Cook the shells according to directions on the package. Make sure to salt the water! It’s also a good idea to cook them al dente (a little under cooked), so they hold their shape.
- Mix together the following: eggs, ricotta cheese, cottage cheese, parmesan cheese, mozzarella cheese, spinach, parsley, salt and pepper.
- Fill the cooked shells with cheese mixture. Pour a thin layer of marinara sauce in a 9X13 inch glass baking dish. Place filled shells into the baking dish. Top with marinara sauce and parmesan cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes until it’s bubbly.
Make ahead, store or freeze:
If you want to make stuffed shells ahead, you can fill the cooked shells with the cheese mixture and prepare the dish until right before baking. Cover with foil and place in the fridge until ready to bake. You can also prepare it to the point before baking and freeze it. This makes a great freezer meal! It also makes a great meal to take to friends or family in need. We love to use those disposable tin pans. They work great in the freezer, and they make it easy for those you bring dinner to, so they don’t need to return your dishes. When they are ready to enjoy, they can just let it thaw in the fridge overnight and bake the next day in the oven!
How long does Spinach Shells and Cheese keep after prepared?
Once prepared, keep leftovers in the fridge in a covered container. It will last up to one week!
Can you make Spinach Cheese Shells with white sauce?
Of course! If you’re not a big fan of marinara, go ahead and switch it out for something different. We think it would pair well with Alfredo sauce!
How to stuff your shells:
When your shell noodles are cooked and ready to be stuffed, just spoon in the cheese mixture until filled. You can add as much or as little as you like!
Can you add meat to Spinach Cheese Shells?
Yes! If you want to add a little protein to this meal, a great option is ground sausage, beef, or turkey. Just add the cooked, seasoned, and drained meat to your marinara sauce, or into the cheese mixture!

A few things that would pair well with stuffed shells are:
- A simple Wedge Salad
