Here’s a sweet treat to give: DIY Peeps Bunny Candy Jars
I have another easy and inexpensive Easter gift idea. Marshmallow Peeps are such an iconic Easter treat, don’t you think? I spotted these cute paintable plastic bunnies, and I thought they looked just like the candy and that they’d make cute jar toppers.
I love giving treats in mason jars. I love that you can see into the glass and what ever is inside becomes part of the packaging of the gift itself.
These little plastic bunnies look just like the marshmallow candy. I found them at Walmart, back in the craft section for one dollar each. They were in a bin with a bunch of other spring shapes. They don’t really stand up on their own, but they work great for this little craft.
Here’s what you’ll need for this easy craft/gift idea:
-plastic bunny peeps
-small wide mouth mason jars
-spray paint in peeps colors
-hammer and nail
-wooden skewers
-heavy duty scissors to cut the wooden skewers
For the spray paint, I used Rustoleum: sun yellow, berry pink and seaside, all in gloss finish. Total peeps colors!
With a hammer and nail, you’ll need to make a hole in the center of each mason jar lid.
Here’s a quick tip for spray painting outside. For small spray paint projects like this, use items from your recycle bin to put under the things you are spray painting…like cardboard pizza boxes, shopping bags and cereal boxes. They work great, and once they are dry you can just recycle them again.
Once all dry, you can now assemble the bunny jar toppers. Poke a wooden skewer up through the center hole of the mason jar lid, and pull it up through the hole wiggling it around if its tight. With the pointed end of the wooden skewer on top, poke it into the bottom hole of the plastic bunny, and push the bunny down onto the skewer touching the jar lid. Once on there securely, you can trim the wooden skewer leaving about one half inch coming out the bottom. You won’t need any glue to keep the bunny up right with this wooden skewer.
Now fill the jar with your favorite Easter candy…like peeps! These cute Reeses’ Eggs come in the same colors as the peeps, and I love how they look inside the jars.
That’s it! They make a sweet Easter gift, or they would look cute in an Easter basket. Either way, you can’t go wrong.
I hope you all have a fun Easter Weekend!
