- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
How to make Monster Cookies:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Cream the butter and sugar together well for 1-2 minutes until light and fluffy.
- Add the peanut butter and mix well. Add egg and vanilla and mix again.
- In a separate bowl stir together the flour, oats, salt, baking powder and baking soda.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix a little bit longer to combine. Stir in the chocolate chips and M&M’s.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes, or a little longer if you make each cookie dough ball larger than a 1 inch cookie scoop. Avoid over baking.
- Remove them from the oven and allow to cool completely on the pan.
Why use both baking soda and baking powder?
-
- When you use both, it takes away the slightly tangy flavor that can occur when only using soda.
- It gives your cookies a golden brown color during baking.
- Using both offers more leavening, helping these cookies to rise a bit more.
Why are they called Monster Cookies?
These are a “Frankenstein” mashup of three types of cookies: Oatmeal, Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip. It’s a delicious mashup.

Quick Tip for shaping warm cookies:
Here’s a new technique that I love when it comes to reshaping warm cookies.
Take a wide mouth mason jar that fits over the top of each cookie without smashing any of the edges.
Place the open side of the jar over the top of the cookie. In a circular motion, gently swirl around the cookie and it will bring any edges into the cookie making the cookies perfectly circular and all of your cookies will look more rounded.
Storing and Freezing:
When cookies have cooled store them in an airtight container for 3 or 4 days. If you need them to last longer, freeze them in zip top bags (or plastic air tight container) stacking cookies with parchment paper between each layer.
