What’s the word on the street?! Well if you live on my street, the word on the street (thanks to an excited big sister :)) is that I’m pregnant …and it’s true. I am!
She’s excited to let you know that we’re having a girl!
and when I told him that I have a baby in my belly, this was his response:
and this guy had to get a few words in (Kyle’s going to be so mad when he sees this guy wearing his favorite tie.). 😉
This week I am 21 weeks along. I have wanted to share this fun news for a few weeks now, but with my history of recurrent pregnancy loss (miscarriages), I have been waiting to feel good about everything. It’s been hard because once we got past those first 12 weeks of worry (and tired and gaggy that I know so well), we had an ultrasound with a few concerns. We have a friend who does ultrasounds for her job, and she has helped us with all of our ultrasounds. Just like my pregnancy with Avery, she noticed a lag in growth with our baby girl on the way.
Last Wednesday I had an ultrasound from a Perinatologist, and there are a few concerns with this pregnancy. Our baby girl isn’t growing very well, and it looks like she will be IUGR (just like Avery when I was pregnant with her).
For those of you not familiar with the term IUGR, it stands for Intrauterine Growth Restriction and is due to my placenta not functioning like it should, causing problems with the baby’s growth.
I would love to make this pregnancy announcement confidently, but the truth is that this is a scary time for us (me). The bright side is that we know what to expect with an IUGR preemie, since we have been through it all before when Avery was a baby. The big difference is that back then, I didn’t have other kids at home to worry about. I was relieved last week to hear that bed rest was not ordered as of yet, although if the baby’s growth (or lack thereof) continues on like it is, bed rest will be on the agenda.
We are all praying like crazy that everything will be okay and our baby girl on the way can grow like she should. If you are the praying type, any prayers sent our way would be greatly appreciated.
Although it looks like she will be coming early, her official due date is February 21, 2012. Kyle is a huge Rush fan, so we have shortened the due date to February 21, 12 (Rush has an album titled 2112…Kyle thinks it’s a sign :)). To break the news to Kyle’s family (filled with Rush fans), we broke out the silhouette and created a Rush-inspired “Big Brother Tour” concert T-shirt for Aiden (using authentic Rush fonts and everything).
