This Caprese Wreath makes the most colorful festive appetizer, sure to be a hit at your holiday party.
Caprese Wreath Holiday Appetizer
We are big fans of the classic caprese salad, and this is such a fun way to serve it up: in the shape of a holiday wreath. A basic caprese salad is just fresh mozzarella cheese, ripe tomatoes and fresh basil leaves with a little balsamic glaze and olive oil. We have a simple Caprese salad version with lettuce or a Caprese pasta salad that we love too! If you are heading to a party, this caprese appetizer is so easy and so beautiful!
How to Propagate Basil:
For the fresh basil leaves, I bought a live basil plant (found in the produce section of my local grocery store) for $4. After I picked so many leaves off of it for this, it was looking really sad, so I cut out the naked stems and stuck them in a small glass of water. After a few weeks, all of these stems will start to grow roots and I can plant them in small pots. Did you know that basil does this? It’s one of my favorite things to do with fresh herbs! If you don’t have access to fresh basil because it’s winter time, these live plants are a great way to go.
We used extra long toothpicks for this, but you can use regular toothpicks. The extra long toothpicks are a little more fancy and they help keep your fingers clean when eating and dipping.
For the balsamic glaze: We love this balsamic glaze from Trader Joes, it’s so good! You can also make your own balsamic glaze…here’s an easy recipe for a good balsamic glaze.

We served this up at a family party, and everyone LOVED it!
A reader shared a photo on Pinterest under this pin. I loved the cute way she serve it up, she added pepperoni rounds and she made a bell pepper look like a bow for the wreath. So clever!
