Captain Crunch cereal makes the best coating for chicken strips.
Cap’n Crunch Chicken Tenders
Have you ever tried Captain Crunch chicken strips before? The idea is rather than breadcrumbs, you use Captain Crunch cereal for the breading. It makes for a sweet take on a favorite way to eat chicken.
My kids LOVE it! You can dip them in all the usual things you’d dip into just like regular chicken strips. You could even do red chili sauce, like you’d dip shrimp for a spicy sweet taste. Anyway you do it, you can’t go wrong…these are so good on their own, or you can dip them in ranch or your favorite condiment. They’d make for great Game Day party food for the SuperBowl coming up.
What you need to make Cap/n Crunch Chicken Tenders:
- 1-2 Chicken Breasts cut into chicken tender or nugget sized pieces.
- 1-2 cups Cap’n Crunch cereal
- 2 eggs for an egg wash
- 1 cup flour
- black pepper for seasoning the flour
- garlic powder for seasoning the flour
How to make Captain Crunch Chicken Nuggets:
- Cut up your chicken to desired sizes, kitchen shears help to make the job go quick!
- Blend the cereal into crumbs in your food processor or blender. Place cereal crumbs into a shallow glass pie plate to prepare for breading.
- In a wide frying pan use a small amount of oil to fry the chicken strips. Start to heat the oil in your frying pan. Choose an oil that is good under high heat…canola works great.
- Prepare all three dipping plates for the chicken. 1-the seasoned flour 2-the egg wash 3-the Cap’n Crunch crumbs. Dip the chicken into the three separate mixtures: the seasoned flour, then move onto the egg wash, and finally the cereal crumbs.
- Check the oil to see if it’s hot enough before you begin. Test it with a little bit of the flour mixture. If the oil sizzles, it’s ready. Place in your shallow pan to fry and cook the chicken for 2-3 minutes each side, until they are crisp and golden.
- Place the cooked chicken tenders on a cooling rack with paper towels underneath to catch excess oil. This also stops the breading from getting sticky from sitting to the paper towels.
If you already have a box of Captain Crunch in your pantry, then you’re on your way to these yummy chicken strips!
Here’s a bit of the “How To” in photos. I’ll share the full recipe below.
How to reheat chicken tenders:
These are best eaten the same day. If you’re taking them to a party, they warm up great, just place them in a preheated oven at 350 for 5-8 minutes.
