We are all about making our restaurant favorites at home and these easy Asian Chicken Lettuce Wraps are just like our favorite appetizer at PF Changs and so so delicious! They are also gluten and dairy free which is always a bonus.
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground chicken
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 onion, finely diced
- 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
- 1 tablespoon grated ginger
- 1 tablespoon Sriracha, optional
- 1 (8-ounce) can water chestnuts, drained and diced
- 2 green onions, diced
- salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1 head butter lettuce
How to make chicken lettuce wraps:
- In a saucepan over medium high heat add the olive oil and ground chicken and cook until the chicken is browned and crumbled, about 3-5 minutes. Drain any excess grease.
- Add in the diced onion and cook until the onions have become translucent, about 1-2 minutes.
- Stir in the garlic, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, ginger and Sriracha hot sauce.
- Stir in chestnuts and green onions until tender, about 1-2 minutes; season with salt and pepper, to taste.
- To serve, spoon several tablespoons of the chicken mixture into the center of a lettuce leaf and enjoy.
Make the chicken lettuce wrap filling:
- Brown the ground chicken: make sure it is fully cooked and broken up into small crispy brown pieces.
- Dice the vegetables small: dice up the water chestnuts and the onions small this helps make sure great flavor is in every bite.
- Prepare the lettuce to make the lettuce wraps: Just cut the bottom of the head of lettuce off and carefully peel each lettuce leaf away from the head of lettuce.
What kind of lettuce should I use for lettuce wraps?
We love using butter lettuce for serving lettuce wraps, but you can also use romaine lettuce, red leaf or green leaf lettuce. Lettuce that is flexible for wrapping is important. Iceberg lettuce is not great for lettuce wraps because it’s not very flexible.

Variations for Serving:
- The filling for lettuce wraps can be served in different ways. Traditionally it’s served with lettuce, but you can also try serving it over rice noodles or rice.
- Ground Chicken: if you can’t find ground chicken, you can always try chicken breasts and dice them really small for tiny bites of chicken.
- Olive Oil: Don’t have olive oil? Try peanut oil, or avocado oil.
- Soy sauce: Substitute Liquid Aminos in place of soy sauce for a gluten free option.
