DIY Pencil Cupcake Toppers
Cupcake Toppers for Teacher Appreciation
I feel the need to give this post a little disclaimer. I was feeling crafty and I think maybe the idea in my head didn’t translate exactly, and it’s okay. Running with the same wavelength of the carrot cake toppers I did last month, I thought it would be fun to do pencil cupcake toppers for teacher appreciation week, or these would be fun for a back to school party too. These whimsical pencil cupcake toppers are paper crafted in a similar way as the paper carrots.
So…they may be a bit of a stretch from the shape of an actual pencil, but who can deny the classic happy colors of a pencil? And who doesn’t wish their eraser was extra big for all their mistakes? 🙂
The tools used for these cupcake toppers are pretty similar to the paper carrots:
– Fiskars paper crimper
– Martha Stewart fringe scissors
– Wilton lollipop sticks
For the How To: make a 1/2 inch strip of yellow orange card stock and silver card stock, and run it through the paper crimper. Take a 3 inch x 1 inch piece of pink card stock and cut it with the fringe scissors leaving one end uncut so it stays together as one piece.
Start with the pink card stock and wrap it around one end of the white lollipop stick and with a hot glue gun or glue dots stick each strip of pink card stock down. Next wrap the yellow orange paper around the lollipop stick. Finish with the crimped silver card stock strip.
Oh, and don’t forget to make some pencil colored confetti while you’re at it, because everyone loves confetti! 🙂
I love it when I can make a big paper craft mess.
I almost didn’t post these crazy cupcake toppers, and then I remembered this great quote spotted on the ModCloth Blog:
Isn’t that a great quote?! I love it! It sort of sums up how I was feeling. Not everything we make will be perfect, but as long as we keep creating and keep on keepin’ on, we will end up at a better destination than if we don’t try at all.
Here’s hoping you can make some mistakes today too!
