Often times a recipe will call for Italian Seasoning, and you might not have it. Turns out that it’s super easy to mix up at home. It’s a blend of a few different dried herbs and spices and it comes in handy often. A good one to keep at the ready when you need it.
What is Italian Seasoning?
Italian Seasoning is a blend of dried herbs and spices. It adds great flavor to so many of our favorite Italian recipes. The most common dried herbs in Italian Seasoning are: oregano, basil, thyme, rosemary, parsley. Red chili flakes and garlic powder add a little kick and a lot of flavor.

- 2 tablespoons dried basil
- 2 tablespoons dried oregano
- 1 tablespoons dried rosemary
- 2 tablespoons dried parsley
- 1 tablespoon dried thyme
- 1 tablespoon red chili flakes
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
How to make Italian Seasoning at home:
When you keep a pretty well stocked spice drawer, making Italian Seasoning at home is so easy, you’ll always want to skip the store bought option. Just measure out all the dried herbs and spices, mix and store in an airtight container. How long does Italian Seasoning Keep?
Just like most spices, this will stay fresh for 6 months if stored in a dark place like a cabinet or a drawer and in an airtight container.

Make your own Italian Seasoning at home...it's so easy and you probably have all the ingredients in your spice drawer.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons dried basil
- 2 tablespoons dried oregano
- 1 tablespoon dried rosemary
- 2 tablespoons dried parsley
- 1 tablespoon dried thyme
- 1 tablespoon red chili flakes *or less if you like less heat
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl.

Using a funnel, pour mixture into an air tight container and store in a cool dark place for up to 6 months.
