This recipe is a must in our favorite lasagna recipe! You can find great canned tomatoes like San Marzano or Cento in the store, but it’s the fresh ingredients you add to the crushed tomatoes that makes the BEST marinara! Here’s all the ingredients lined up and ready to go. This is my favorite way to cook, because then I know I have everything ready to go BEFORE I start! It’s KEY!
What you need to make delicious Homemade Marinara Sauce
-Good Quality Crushed Tomatoes + Tomato Paste
-Good Quality Extra Virgin olive oil
-white or yellow onion diced fine
-Fresh garlic, minced
Seasonings:
-dried oregano
-dried basil
-sea salt
-sugar
-crushed red pepper flakes
-Fresh Italian Flat Leaf Parsley, chopped
-chicken broth (or Better Than Bouillon + water)
Homemade Marinara Sauce
You just can't beat homemade marinara sauce. Make a big batch and freeze some for later!
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/2 white or yellow onion diced fine
- 1 teaspoon garlic (3 cloves) minced
- 1 28oz. can crushed tomatoes
- 3oz. tomato paste 1/2 small can
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 2 teaspoons dried basil
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 pinch crushed red pepper flakes
- 1/4 cup Fresh Italian Flat Leaf Parsley chopped
- 1/2 cup chicken broth (or 1/2 tsp. Better Than Bouillon + 1/2 cup water)
Instructions

In a large sauté pan set to medium high heat add the oil and the diced onion. Cook the onion until translucent.

Add in the minced garlic and cook for a short time until the garlic is fragrant.

Now add in the rest of the ingredients and bring to a gentle simmer. Stir periodically as it simmers for 15-20 minutes.
Recipe Notes
*If using Better Than Bouillon, use 1/2 cup water to 1/2 tsp Better than Bouillon.
