Perfect comfort food dessert: Peach Cobbler…served warm with vanilla ice cream…it’s the best.
When peaches are in season, you have to make something delicious, it’s a must! I’ve shared a few peach dessert recipes here over the years, but I have yet to share classic peach cobbler. You just cannot go wrong with peach cobbler, it’s so easy to make. Make it with fresh peaches or make it year round with canned or bottled peaches.
Ingredients:
- 4 cups peaches, peeled, cored and sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
For the Batter: - 6 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
How to Make Classic Peach Cobbler:
- Preheat oven to 350 F.
- In a saucepan, add the peaches, sugar and salt. Stir to combine.
- Cook the peaches on medium high heat in a saucepan until the sugar dissolves and the juices from the peaches come out. Remove from the heat and set aside.
- Slice the butter into slabs and add to a 9x13in. dish. Place the baking dish with the butter into the oven while the oven preheats. Let the butter melt in the oven. As soon as the butter is melted, take the pan out of the oven.
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Add in the milk and stir all together until combined.
- Carefully pour this mixture into the baking dish, over the melted butter. Smooth out the batter in an even layer all over the bottom of the baking dish.
- With a slotted spoon, spoon the peaches over the batter. Sprinkle it all with ground cinnamon over the top.
Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Peach Cobbler Leftovers:
It’s a must to make last night’s dessert into the next day’s breakfast, that is if you are lucky enough to have any leftover. You can store any leftovers in the fridge in a covered container.
Reheat individual servings in the microwave for 1 – 1 1/2 minutes until warm. Serve with vanilla ice cream if desired.
Peel Peaches with Ease:
If using fresh peaches, you’ll need to peel those peaches before you core and slice them. It’s really easy to perfectly peel peaches, here’s how:
- Add a few peaches to a pot of boiling water. Let the peaches sit in the water for one minute.
- After one minute, move the peaches to ice water to stop the cooking process.
- Once cool enough to handle, the peach peel will come right off. It might help to cut the peach in half to pull the peel from the cut edge.
Peach Cobbler with fresh peaches or canned peaches:
Peach Cobbler is a must when peaches are in season, but if want to make it year round, with canned or bottled peaches, there is only one change to this recipe:
Skip the steps of adding sugar and salt to the peaches and cooking on the stove top. Canned or bottled peaches already have a little sugar with them.
How many peaches in 1 cup?
Depending on the size of your peaches, about 2 medium sized peaches that have been peeled, cored and sliced will make about a 1 cup measurement.
