Easy slow Cooker Chocolate Dipped Strawberries
It’s that time of year when we start to see those long stem strawberries in the grocery stores perfect for dipping in chocolate for Valentine’s Day. We love chocolate dipped strawberries, and they’re especially fun this time of year. Our new favorite way to dip them is to use the slow cooker, it’s so great at maintaining the perfect temperature so there is no stopping and starting to warm up the chocolate. With the slow cooker, you can dip a bunch without needing to rewarm up the chocolate. Also when you use a slow cooker liner, cleanup is a breeze.
What you need for chocolate dipped strawberries:
- strawberries (they can be long stem or regular)
- chocolate (your choice…we love Guittard milk chocolate, but use your favorite)
- bright white candy melts (for drizzling) *optional
- sprinkles (we used micro heart sprinkle mix)
- slow cooker
- slow cooker liner (for easy cleanup)
- sheet pan
- parchment paper
How to melt chocolate in a slow cooker:
- Prepare your strawberries: rinse them and dry them completely
- Line your slow cooker / crock pot with a slow cooker liner. It’s a must for easy clean up.
- Plug in your slow cooker and set it to the lowest setting.
- Add the chocolate into the bottom of your slow cooker and allow the chocolate to sit undisturbed for at least 30 minutes with the lid on.
- You will know when the chocolate is ready when it starts to look shiny and starts to melt.
- Give the chocolate a stir with a rubber scraper. When it looks smooth after stirring, you are ready to start to dip.
- Next to your slow cooker have a sheet pan lined with parchment paper ready to go to place the strawberries after they have been dipped in the melted chocolate.
- Dip each strawberry in the chocolate and place onto the parchment paper.
- Before the chocolate sets drizzle them with a little bright white candy melts that you melt in a small bowl warmed in the microwave. Optional: sprinkle with holiday sprinkles.
- Move the sheet pan into the fridge to allow the chocolate to set and harden. Take out of the fridge once the chocolate is set. Enjoy them within 48 hours.
What is the best way to melt chocolate for dipping?
There are a few different ways to melt chocolate for dipping, you can melt it in the microwave, in a double boiler on your cook top OR in a slow cooker/crock pot. We have tried all three ways and we like each one for different reasons:
-The microwave melting method is the fastest way to melt the chocolate.
-The double boiler is great for a gradual melt.
-The slow cooker is best for maintaining the perfect dipping temperature, and we love the easy cleanup.
Can you make chocolate covered strawberries a day ahead?
Yes. The chocolate dipped strawberries need to be kept in fridge. Chocolate covered strawberries left at room temperature after being in the fridge will start to sweat. It’s not too much of a problem because they will be consumed pretty quickly.
Can you melt chocolate in a slow cooker?
People often ask if you can use a slow cooker to melt chocolate, and the answer is: Yes! We love to melt chocolate in a slow cooker, it keeps the chocolate at the perfect temperature while you dip all the strawberries. It also works great for dipping pretzels too.
