Two of our favorite snacks together: S’mores Muddy Buddies!
Celebrate National S’mores Day! S’mores are a summertime must, so when National S’mores Day rolls around (August 10th – to be exact) we have to celebrate. You can never go wrong with good old classic s’more, but I’m all about taking that amazing flavor trio and mixing it up. We have shared so much s’mores goodness here over the years including the s’mores dip, indoor s’mores 3 ways and a full roundup of everything s’mores. I don’t think we will ever tire of that classic, so we’re celebrating the holiday with S’mores Muddy Buddies!
What you need to make S’mores Muddy Buddies:
- Rice Chex cereal
- semisweet chocolate chips
- peanut butter
- butter
- vanilla
- mini marshmallows
- graham crackers
- Hershey chocolate bars
- powdered sugar
How to make S’mores Muddy Buddies:
- Toast marshmallows: Using your oven’s broiler, toast the mini marshmallows. Rotate the marshmallows and broil on another side. Keep a close watch and remove from the broiler as soon as they turn a golden brown.
- Prepare ingredients: Into a large bowl, measure the cereal and set it aside. In a big glass – microwavable bowl, microwave the chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter uncovered on High for 1 1/2 minutes until mixture can be stirred smooth. Stir in vanilla.
- Coat cereal: Pour the mixture over the cereal and a little more than half of the toasted marshmallows, stirring until both the cereal and the marshmallows are evenly coated.
- Finishing touches: In a new big glass bowl, toss the coated mixture into the powdered sugar. Serve with a few uncoated toasted mini marshmallows, small broken pieces of graham cracker and small pieces of a Hershey Chocolate bars. Store in an airtight container in the fridge.
How to store S’mores Muddy Buddies:
Keep these muddy buddies stored in an airtight container at room temperature. You can also just keep them in a bowl on the counter, but who knows how long they will last!
Marshmallows for S’mores Muddy Buddies:
Here’s a tip…do you ever have marshmallows that get a little hard? They’re perfect for this recipe! The extra chewy crunch once they’re toasted is the perfect addition to this snack.
Variations:
- Try half Chex cereal and half Golden Grahams cereal.
- If you don’t want to use peanut butter, just coat your cereal in chocolate.
- Add freeze dried marshmallow bits for a little extra crunch.
When to serve S’mores Muddy Buddies:
Muddy Buddies are so easy to snack on, and this s’mores version is no different. Make this treat when you have people over for a game night, as a gift for friends, family or neighbors, or just make them for yourself! Everyone will love them.
