We’re so excited…our favorite animated movie from this Summer, The Secret Life of Pets is out on Blu-Ray and DVD. My whole family loved it! To celebrate the new release, we’ve made some fun dog bone shaped treats for a special movie night at home. We’ve partnered with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment to share these fun chocolate dipped rice krispie treats.
Ever wonder what your pets do when you’re not home? From the humans behind Despicable Me, The Secret Life of Pets is a comedy about the lives our pets lead after we leave for work or school each day. The all-star voice cast includes Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Jenny Slate, Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Dana Carvey, Hannibal Buress, Bobby Moynihan, Steve Coogan and Albert Brooks. We’re big time dog lovers at our house, so we wanted to make a doggy treat for our favorite characters in the movie: Max and Duke…Duke and Max.
Here’s a trick…did you know that you can cut out any shape you want without a cookie cutter? We wanted to make these rice krispie treats to be shaped like dog bones, but we didn’t have a dog bone shaped cookie cutter, so we had to get creative. If you don’t have the shape you want, you can either print out the shape you want and cut it out as a template, or if the shape is fairly simple, you can just draw it and then cut it out, like we did here.
We doubled our Best Ever Rice Krispie treat recipe and then pressed it all into a 18×13 inch half size sheet pan. This is the biggest size pan I have. First we buttered the pan so they wouldn’t stick to the pan.
Once you have the shape you want cut out, just butter a small pairing knife and cut around your template.
The treats were a good size, about 3+ inches long. Cut the leftovers into small pieces and wrap in plastic wrap to keep fresh to snack on later.
Once all cut out, melt your chocolate in a heatproof glass bowl in the microwave and mix well to melt all and combine until smooth. You can either dip the treats into the melted chocolate or just use a knife and spread the chocolate onto half of the treat…this method makes it so you don’t have too much excess chocolate.
While the chocolate is still warm, sprinkle the treats with sprinkles.
If you don’t plan to eat them right away, you can wrap each one individually with plastic wrap to keep them fresh.
If you haven’t seen The Secret Life of Pets yet, now’s your chance! It’s definitely one to add to your at home movie collection… Own The Secret Life of Pets on Blu-ray and DVD, the release comes with close to an hour of bonus footage PLUS 3 Mini Movies!
