Make a Banner for Summer to celebrate the end of another school year and welcome SUMMER!
Welcome Summer Balloon Banner
It’s officially Summer for us here, and we are all pretty pumped about it. Over the years I’ve loved making breakthrough banners for the kids to run through on their last day of school, and I realized that I had not shared them here. It’s such a fun tradition. This year we did a balloon banner, super simple and I love how it turned out.
What you need to make this Summer Balloon Banner
–16inch air inflated alphabet balloon letters
–crepe paper ribbon
–neon curling ribbon
-string
-tape
How to make a balloon Summer Banner:
I love making banners with these air filled alphabet balloons. The best part is that you can reuse these alphabet balloons! Just fill them up with air (not helium) and then take the air out when you want to pack it away until you use it again. For this banner we just used washi tape to adhere the letters onto the string, if you tape the tape around the string and back to itself you can slide the letters along the string to make sure they are in place where you need them to be. We also used tape to tape the curling ribbon and crepe paper ribbon onto the string, with the same idea of being able to slide them along the string to where we want them. For a more Summer-y look we used bright neon happy colors.
These two kids just finished 5th grade and 10th grade.
Here is different Summer Banner we made in 2015. The years are just flying by! This banner was so fun to make! Just white butcher paper and craft paint. For the paint I just add a little of each color to a piece of tinfoil for easy clean up…just throw the tinfoil with the paint in the trash when you are done.
Break through Summer Banner
The break through idea for this banner is why I fell in love with the idea of a Summer banner. It’s basically the idea of breaking through from the routine of the school year into the party of Summer. YAY!
How to make a Welcome to Summer Banner
To make a Summer banner like this, we love to use acrylic craft paint…just a thin layer so it won’t soak through to the other side. The best part of using acrylic craft paint is that it gives you a big impact, way more than markers. You can write BIG with paint.
This photo from 2015 – they had just finished 1st grade and 6th grade.
Summer Banner Decoration
Making a banner for Summer like this is great because you can use it for that last day of school, but you could also use it for an end of year party.
Here is the first Summer banner we ever made, back in 2009.
This Welcome to Summer banner was inspired by a banner we saw in Family Fun Magazine years ago.
In 2009 my girl just finished her first year of kindergarten. She was so little…I can’t believe that was 10 years ago!
