Festive Patriotic Ice Cream Pops for the 4th of July.

Here’s a festive idea for the 4th of July coming up. Gather up the kids and let them decorate their own red white and blue ice cream popsicle. You’ll need to do a little prep work to get the pops ready, but once the ice cream is frozen solid and you have all the sprinkles and red white and blue candies ready to go, you can have fun getting creative in the kitchen together. We made a quick video to give you a few different ideas to get you started.

Do you love to get festive on the 4th?

Working with ice cream is tricky, I have a few tips that I learned from trial and error. If ice cream bars are not your thing, you can swap the ice cream for rice krispie treat pops instead. Maybe not as tasty on a hot day, but much easier to work with. Especially if you are decorating these with little kids. It will be way less messy.

Here are some helpful tips for working with ice cream that are not shown in the video.
-Freeze the ice cream bars solid, like overnight if you have the time.
-After the popsicle stick is in the ice cream, wrap plastic wrap around each bar so when it melts it will freeze back into itself.
-the colors on the M&M’s will bleed as the ice cream melts

We love Haagen Dazs ice cream (it’s the best), but it’s always more expensive than the generic brands. When you slice one container into thirds, it makes the cost for the container not seem that expensive.

Once all the bars are frozen solid, the decorating can begin. Here’s a few different ideas to help get you started. Keep in mind that it’s just for fun and it doesn’t have to be perfect, because you’re just going to eat it any way.

We melted red candy melts and blue candy melts and drizzled it over the top. I love how this one looks like fireworks a little.

The red licorice was the easiest to work with. Just cut the licorice into tiny strips and assemble on parchment paper. Have your design ready to go before putting it on the ice cream.

Here’s what we used to decorate the pops:
-red vines licorice, sliced into strips
-red and white M&Ms
-red candy melts
-blue candy melts
–red white and blue star sprinkles
-tiny red sprinkles
-tiny blue sprinkles
–tiny alphabet cookie cutters

That’s it. Super easy and super festive. Have fun getting your Red White and Blue on!
